What a Gas Engineer Does — and What Ours Sticks To
Search “gas engineer near me” from Stockport or south Manchester and you’ll find plenty of promises. Here’s what ours actually covers. From Branksome Drive in Cheadle (SK8), we’re Gas Safe registered and we install, repair and service combi, system and conventional boilers, run and alter gas pipework, and carry out CP12 gas safety inspections for homeowners and landlords.
That’s the whole list, on purpose. We don’t fit cookers, hobs or gas fires — better to do three things well than stretch a registration thin. Installations and repairs carry a 12-month workmanship guarantee, backed by over 15 years on the tools.
Cheadle Hulme, Heald Green, Gatley and Bramhall are minutes from the front door. Stockport centre and Didsbury are a short drive, and Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Wythenshawe and the Burnage side of south Manchester are covered from the same Cheadle base.

Why This Gas Engineer
Three things a search result can’t tell you.
Over 15 Years on Gas
The awkward flue run, the ageing system, the mystery pressure drop — after more than fifteen years on boilers and gas pipework, most faults have been met before.
The Paper Trail Comes Standard
Benchmark documentation with every boiler installation and a CP12 record after every landlord inspection — the evidence warranty providers, insurers and letting agents ask for.
Priority When the Heating's Off
Households with no heating or hot water are prioritised. A simple rule, and in a Stockport January it's the one that matters.
Smell Gas? We're Your Second Call, Not Your First
Honesty first: a private gas engineer shouldn’t be your first call when you smell gas. Ring the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 — free, answered 24 hours a day. Open windows, avoid switches and naked flames, and get everyone out if the smell is strong.
The emergency service makes the property safe but doesn’t repair anything. That’s where a Gas Safe registered engineer takes over, tracing the fault — often in the boiler or pipework — so the supply can go back on. For urgent failures across Stockport and south Manchester, our emergency call-out page explains how we prioritise, with an aim to respond within 1 hour.
CP12s: The Landlord Side of the Job
We support landlords and letting agents alongside homeowners, and for them the key document is the CP12. Every let property with a gas supply needs an annual Landlord Gas Safety Record, and we carry these out across Cheadle, Stockport and the south Manchester lettings patch, from single flats to a letting agent’s full portfolio.
Appliances and pipework are inspected, the record is issued on completion, and anything that fails gets a plain-English explanation and a free quote for putting it right. Details on our landlord and letting agent services page.

They arrived quickly, diagnosed the problem within minutes, and fixed everything professionally. Not only did they solve the issue, but they also explained clearly what went wrong and how to prevent similar problems in the future. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and honest with pricing. Water from cistern leaking into bowl. Call Darryl who called around the same day. Problem diagnosed as a faulty seal which was replaced. Neat and tidy worker. Price as agreed. Wouldn't hesitate to call Darryl again if I have any further plumbing issues.Posted on Google![]()

Darryl never fails to deliver and impress; both with his speed of response, quality of work and accommodating attitude. Having quoted for the work within twenty-four hours of contact, a mutually convenient date was scheduled and Darryl and his team completed an entire central heating refresh (excluding boiler) on our daughter’s recently purchased terraced house in a day thus enabling us to arrange for other tradesmen to come on site. Thoroughly recommended. Mike and Tanya CarrollPosted on Google![]()

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most.
What's the difference between a plumber and a gas engineer?
Plumbing is water — taps, leaks, drains, radiators. Gas work on boilers, pipework and safety inspections may only legally be done by someone on the Gas Safe Register. Anyone can call themselves a plumber; a gas engineer has to prove it. We cover both trades, so one visit can sort the leak and the boiler behind it.
Are you Gas Safe registered?
Yes — and don’t take that on trust from any website. The Gas Safe Register is public and searchable, so you can check an engineer before they touch your gas; it replaced CORGI as the official scheme in 2009. Working on gas without being on it is illegal.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Don’t ring us first. Step one is the National Gas Emergency line — 0800 111 999, a free 24-hour number set up for exactly this. While you wait, get doors and windows open, leave light switches and appliances alone, and step outside if the smell is heavy. Once the property has been made safe, a Gas Safe registered engineer takes on the repair itself.
Do I need a gas engineer for a boiler service?
Yes. A genuine service involves live gas checks — flue readings, operating pressure, combustion performance — that only a Gas Safe registered engineer may legally perform. Someone offering to give your boiler a quick once-over without that registration isn’t servicing it. We service combi, system and conventional models across Stockport and south Manchester.
How much does a gas engineer cost?
It depends which of the three jobs you’re booking. A CP12 inspection, a boiler repair and a full installation sit in different brackets, and within repairs the fault and the part decide most of the price. Tell us what’s happening and we’ll price the actual job — quotes are free and carry no obligation.
